Transplant

Organ transplantation has become an accepted medical treatment for end-stage organ failure.  Each day, an average of 79 people receive organ transplants.  However, an average of 22 people die each day waiting for transplants that can’t take place because of the shortage of donated organs.

The organs that can be transplanted are:

  • Kidney
  • Liver
  • Pancreas
  • Kidney/pancreas (can be transplanted at the same time)
  • Heart
  • Lung
  • Heart/lung (can be transplanted at the same time)
  • Intestine

People of every age give and receive organ donations. In 2015, 30,970 people received organ transplants. Currently, there are more than 120 million people in the U.S. that are signed up to be a donor.
